James Parker and John Rawlings were neighbors. James kept a diary, and in it he stated that Metacomet (King Philip) overtook John Rawling's garrison, and during the night shouted, bragging to James Parker, how he stuck John's head on a pole facing his home, "lest he forget what he is missing". John Rawling's father John must have been mortally wounded, as he died the same day, March 13, 1676. James Parker and Metacomet had been friends before the Indian uprisings. It was the English who named Metacomet King Philip.
