Joseph Adams, son of Henry Adams the immigrant, was born 1626 in King Weston, England, and came to Massachusetts with his parents and siblings in 1636. He was a maltster & yeoman like his father, was made a freeman in 1653, served as a selectman in 1673, and died in 1694. He married in 1650, Abigail, daughter of Gregory & Margaret (Paddy)Baxter, of Boston. She died in 1692, having borne her husband twelve children: Hannah, Joseph Jr., John, Abigail, Bethea, Samuel, Mary, Capt. Peter, Jonathan and Mehitable.

- Hannah Bass (1667-1705). Joseph and Hannah had 8 children. Joseph and Hannah are ancestors of Pres. John Adams and John Quiny Adams.
- Elizabeth Hobart (1666-1738/9), in c1708. She was b. June 12, 1666 in Braintree, the daughter of Caleb Hobart and Mary Eliot. Joseph and Elizabeth had one child: Caleb Adams; b. May 26, 1710; d. June 4, 1710.
