Robert Temple was born in 1639 in Salem, Essex, Massachusetts. Although some sources place his birth in England, this does not fit with the timing of his father's immigration. He was a member of a coroner's jury in 1670 in Saco, York, Maine. He died in 1675 in Saco, York, Maine, killed by Indians in King Phillip's War. In 1660 Robert Temple was fined at Salem Massachusetts for wearing silver lace when he was thought not to have property sufficient to sustain such expense. He bought and sold land inSalem in 1660. He probably went to Saco, Maine soon afterward.

Robert Temple had a son Richard, born in Saco in 1675. His son Richard settled in Reading, Massachusetts and founded a large family.

Robert Temple married Goodwife (Goody) in 1667 in Saco, York, Maine. After her husband's death, she sought aid from mr. Scottow at Black Point, so that her crops would be saved. She was refused, and she lost everything. Their children:
